I started creative. Writing, photography, dance, music, choir, a few instruments.

Dance went the furthest. I competed, then represented New Zealand at the World Hip Hop Dance Championship, and later taught it.

By high school I was already working three jobs at once. Dance teacher, hospitality, and managing a theatre, all while studying. I learned the value of hard work early, and it built relationships I still have.

Then a photography scholarship pointed me at fashion. I built a clothing label, got it into stores, sold online, worked retail at Foot Locker, I Love Ugly, AS Colour. Inventory, margins, ecommerce, all of it.

It didn’t last. But it taught me more about myself than the degree did, where I was heading and what no longer fit. So I closed it. On purpose.

Then services. I got my immigration license and joined the family practice. A different world. No product on a shelf, just people and outcomes.

I don’t run it alone. There’s a team, and learning to run the whole business taught me more than the casework ever did. Workflows, funnels, fulfilment, client communication, aligning what people want with what’s actually possible. Most of it is planning. It’s really just event coordination with immigration.

What carried over is how I build. I run a service like a product, and a practice like a system.

None of it was a detour. It all compounded.
